LSU Celebrates Latino Heritage: A Week of Culture and Connection

September is Latino Heritage Month, so our Latino Student Union (LSU) hosted 4 events celebrating the Latino culture they share. They had a Spanish worship night September 15, Copa Mundial (soccer match) September 16, Cultural Cuisine Night at the Dining Commons September 17, and Con la Familia to finish out the celebration Friday night, September 18.

Con la familia was the main celebration of the week, where students in the LSU could celebrate their respective cultures with others. One unique piece of Con la Familia is that students are encouraged to invite a plus one, so people can celebrate together and invite others to experience their culture.

“Con la familia is a really fun time of sharing meals and enjoying the culture that brings us all together. It’s a lot of fellowship through our culture with others who share the same culture. The fact you also get to bring a plus one brings others who are not a part of the culture into the experience, growing everyone involved,” said junior Nicole Braz Domene.

Outside of the LSU, other organizations in the OIP (Office of Intercultural Programs) have been planning events. The Middle Eastern Collegiate Association hosted their first Mint Tea on Thursday, September 18.

The Asian student organization, ASIA, hosted Asian Street Market this past Saturday night, an annual event beloved by all at Taylor.
