The first time I saw the columns filled with the names of those who had been lynched I was speechless. It seemed surreal. Four thousand names. Each name representing a person. Each name representing a story. Each name representing an injustice. When I realized the names were listed by county, there was only one thing I wanted to do, call my dad and find out what county he was born in. Was someone in my family lineage represented in this display?

You cannot appreciate the pain this display represents. You cannot imagine the determination that can arise from your soul when you see this. A determination to never hide behind the law, culture, religion, or cowardliness when faced with injustice. We must be willing to live out the words regarding truth from John 8:31-32.
