The Civil Rights Experience reminds me of the role of the church. On similar trips, we’ve visited churches in Birmingham, Selma, Charlotte, Montgomery, Franklin and Atlanta. There are two types of church contacts: the historical space and the living organism. Occasionally, we are in spaces that are both. Something happened significantly impacting Civil Rights, and the Local church is still there and thriving. You can’t kill hope. Jesus gives hope with the resurrection and any thing the church touches- even the evils of injustice must realize the church won’t give up because Jesus didn’t give up.
